JustChokus! Music Production 101

JustChokus! are the New Delhi based duo preparing to take the EDM scene by storm. After bringing out some quality material in the last year, they are lining up more releases and gigs in 2018 to take the next step of progression in their career and show the world they mean business. We caught up with the guys to learn a bit more about what makes their productions unique, and why we should be keeping our eyes on them!

Hey! Thanks for taking time to talk to us about the production aspect of your career. Give us a bit of info about how you got in to producing!

Were you self-taught?

Yeah, we started by just randomly playing with Doctor P loops and one shots. We made lots of mistakes and I guess that’s what got us here in the first place! Mistakes, but consistency.

How did you develop your music production skills and talents?

Tutorials, exploring articles regarding different kinds of production techniques and practice!

Where do you get your inspiration from when producing new music?

It could be anything; a great day, clear sky, good mood, even some liquor could do the job.

What’s the typical process you go through when working on a new tune?

We always start with some sound design. That actually gives us the whole idea of what we want to do with the track.

Do you have a specific method of production you stick to?

We just experiment with everything until it sounds perfect to our ears.

When you are producing, what are your go to plugins and equipment?

For plugins we mostly use Xfer, Izotope and all of the fab filter plugins. And for equipment we always trust Beyerdynamic dt770 Pro – that is just a pure sounding beast.

What’s your favourite synth?

It always will be Serum by Xfer!

And your favourite sample pack?

Cymatics always have the hard-hitting shit.

Do you have a favourite plugin for your mixdowns and masters?

Yes, Izotope plugins are very very powerful for mix and master. There’s no question!

What plugins/equipment is on your master channel?

Izotope Ozone 8.

How long does it usually take you to complete a new track?

It actually depends on the kind of track we are producing. Dubstep is one of the genres that takes the longest.

Which traits do you think make an excellent producer?

Consistency, faith and challenging yourself.

Finally, what can we expect in terms of new music from JustChokus?

In India Chokus basically means amazing, so what ever we drop next it’ll always be amazing.
