‘This Or That’ interview with Znas

After previously working in publishing for electronic dance music, Znas has turned his sights on a career as an independent artist. His prior productions have seen support from prestigious Swedish DJ and producer StoneBridge. Znas has continuously proved his knack for production by creating stand out pieces in genres ranging from Trance to Progressive and Deep House. Read on for an insight into Znas with these quickfire questions

DJing or Production?

Both. I really like the production, and being locked in my studio for hours without leaving but I do also love the contact with the public, I like to see how it vibrates, feels and watching people being moved by my music, it’s a stimulus that has no price.

Ibiza or LA?

I love Ibiza, the white island. I would absolutely love to live in Ibiza but I also love big cities, so the ideal thing for me would be to spend the summer season in Ibiza and the rest of the year in LA.

Vinyl or CDJ?

Neither one thing nor the other. I stay with the DDJ, which is what I have in my studio. I’m a person of the latest technologies.

Ableton or Logic?

Neither one nor the other. I have always worked with Steinberg’s Cubase. It is not the most used DAW but in my opinion, it is the one that gives a better sound quality.

Facebook or Instagram?

I detest social networks! The truth is that I have a profile on all of them because they are indispensable to promote yourself as an artist today. My favourite is definitely Linkedin because it puts me in touch with music professionals. I only have an artist profile, I’m not on any network with a personal account.

Club or Festival?

I like both of them. The atmosphere of a club is wonderful, I love that intimacy, the music enclosed by four walls, overwhelming, the strobe lights, the flashes and the images playing on a giant screen it’s very futuristic and very cyberpunk. It drives me crazy. I find that a festival is a complete opposite to that of a club, it fascinates me to see so many people grouped in an esplanade, shouting, singing and dancing. It’s very impressive. It’s very retro and reminiscent of concerts in the 70s.

House or Trance?

I like both, but if I have to choose one, I’ll take House. I feel very comfortable with it, like a fish in water. I work very well with Progressive House and Deep House, and music of less than 135 bpm. I don’t like really fast music. I started producing music from 128 bpm to 135 bpm, and now I have become more melodic and I work between 120 and 125 bpm. In the end we all find our groove and we place ourselves where we are most comfortable. With my next release until the end of the year: “I Just Can´t Get Enough of You” and “Just A Fool” my followers will be able to enjoy more Vocal Deep House.

‘F!RE’ or ‘Ethereal’?

I like them both! They are so different, a bit like the sun and the moon and every time I listen to them they move me and I always find new nuances. I like to think I’m improving launch to launch. In the next mix that is going to be published about my music you can enjoy both at the same time, it’s a joy, the Mix is wonderful! My great friend Deejay DPet from Radio Platinum London has done it. I like that my friends collaborate with me and I collaborate with them. I believe that in this way the works have an added value.

Intimate set or playing for thousands of people?

Both of them. Each one has its charm and I like them both. The emotions are the same as with the previous question of choosing between Club or Festival.

Streaming or physical music?

Digital music, I don’t really stream any music I like to buy the music that I like. I buy it in digital stores. I am not really a supporter of streaming as it is regulated. An artist doesn’t earn much money with streaming, only the platforms that market the service earn money. I encourage all the public to buy the music they like, to show solidarity with the artists, to help us continue to produce music. Especially those of us who are independent and have no support, and who do not pay a fee for listening.
