Swedish DJ/Producer Novado has had an amazing year, and is looking forward to another positive twelve months where he will be sure to grow in stature and progress even further in the Dance music scene. We wanted to get to know a bit more about the multi-talented musician, so we asked him a few questions!
Hey! What’s going on in the world of Novado?
There’s been a lot going on lately! I’ve mainly been busy DJing, this last period has been really crazy with almost 20 gigs in one month. On the production side I just released my latest original track “Cloudless”. I’ve also been putting out a number of remixes lately and working on new music that will be out in not too long at all!
You’re based out of Stockholm, has that always been home?
No, I’ve actually lived in quite a few places before- New York, Paris, Ibiza and Lausanne to name a few. I’m born and raised in Uppsala (Sweden) though.
How long have you been working in the Dance music scene? And how did it all start?
My background is in DJing and it’s been a while since I first started playing clubs, about 8-9 years ago now. As an artist, it’s only the last few years that my career has started. I first got into the scene after a trip to Miami when I was 19. We didn’t have a very good dance scene back in Sweden at the time, so it was all really new to me. By coincidence, there were a lot of Swedish DJs playing there that week and I found it really inspiring. When I came back home I immediately called up a good friend of mine who was a DJ and asked if I could come along to one of his gigs to watch him play. We ended up playing together after a while, and that’s how the whole thing started.
Describe your sound in three words!
Emotive, House-y and summery!
Who were your influences as you got in to Dance music?
It started with the French House scene and artists like Modjo, Stardust and Junior Jack. “Lady” by Modjo was the first track that got me into Dance music.
What have been your career highlights so far?
Playing Café del Mar in Ibiza is definitely one that stands out. Playing Ibiza Rocks Hotel is also a really special memory.
What does this year hold for you?
This year I’ll be focusing a lot more on my own productions, as last year my focus was to DJ as much as possible.
What’s your ultimate career dream?
Being able to play the sound that I’m representing to crowds around the world that genuinely understand and appreciate the music. Ideally while being able to bring my friends on tour with me!
Can you tell us about any upcoming releases and projects you’ve got lined up?
I’m working on a lot of new music right now, both collaborations and solo projects. All release dates aren’t clear yet, but there will be a LOT of music coming out in 2018. I have an original track coming out soon, there’s also a remix of a real House classic from the 90s that I can’t say too much about now.
Whose releases impressed you the most in 2017?
I was very impressed by the The Aston Shuffle, they had a string of quality releases last year, and especially Pass You By – which was amazing. I think their tracks are usually really creative and well produced in general. Some other ones that definitely impressed me were Just Kiddin, Ferdinand Weber and Mike Mago. All of them put out quality releases last year as they have for a while now.
What are your resolutions for the New Year?
I’ve actually got a pretty long list of resolutions for this year. My main one is to finish more music though!
Can you tell us something not many people know about Novado?
I regularly play gigs at Hip-Hop clubs!
Anything to add or any shout outs?
Big shout out to Felix Leiter who has been really supportive of my music.
