Dynatonic returns this month with a tight three-tracker EP exploring the grounds between Melodic Techno and House. The concept holds a light up to underground tendencies whilst enveloping a more melodic element via sultry chords and subtly euphoric arpeggiators that evoke the soundscapes of throwback Progressive House with a deeper 2019 twist.
The lead track ‘Eternity Sunshine’ quickly sets the tone for the EP with ear-tickling synth lines tightly fixed in over reflective pads and a classic bass routine. The almost Trance-like super saws are teased behind filters without ever being unleashed leaving you wanting more, but appreciating the subtleness of the production.
‘Nocturn’ turns a corner with a front and centre offbeat hat holding the groove elements whilst a flurry of scattering arp hits again recall to more upfront melodic genres whilst fully retaining the stripped back and progressive nature of the whole EP. Smooth transitions and filter modulation make the hypnotic nature of the track all more absorbing and the nearly 8 minute meditation is over in what feels like seconds.
There’s a surprise entry to round off the EP as Ala joins Dynatonic for something riskier as spoken word and guitars take the attention away from the electronic nature of the rest of the EP. Contrasting synthesized drums, bass and arp synth work offer the electronic side of this analogue meets digital presentation. It’s a curveball in comparison to the other two tracks on the EP – but makes for a perfect curtain-closer for this excellent package.
It’s an accomplished package from Dynatonic who continues to grow a repertoire of quality EPs and singles that is quickly becoming a discography worth your attention.
‘Eternity Sunshine’ is available now on Poolside Deep.
